Melcey pups are predatary animals most similar to cats in their manner, but not necessarily without dog-like characteristics. They hunt anything from a rabbit to small deer, and they can live in a variety of habitats, chiefly savannah, desert, or deciduous forest. They are very swift runners, have excellant vision, and can be used for a variety of purposes when domesticated.
Melcey pups can be trained to get along with most any kind of animal. Although they can and do eat hoofed animals, in captivity they can be very good companions to equines. Melcey pups are useful for pulling sleds, sending messages, for hunting, to serve as sentries, for protection, or just for companionship. They are more intelligent than the average dog and more trainable then the cat. They are generally lovable, good-natured animals, if not at times prone to sarcasm and mischief.
Melcey pups can be named practically anything, as long as it's not a generic name like John or Cindy or something. Melcey pups are usually born with several colors and markings on their bodies, and solid-colored pups are rather rare. Some pups are longish haired and others are plain shorthairs.
All pups are born with a certain Theme. A pup's theme determines its abilities in the magical sense and its coloring, but only very loosely. Some pups might have odd coloring for what's indicated for its theme.
Explanation of Themes
Earth - (patron elemental Funaner, color gold) This theme is one of the more common ones because of its powers. The colors of Earth pups are usually greens, browns, and other earth tones. The powers of Earth pups includes the ability to find the best terrain in a certain area to run on, as well as an attraction to precious stones and metals. Associated with Life, Time, and Sky.
Fire - (patron elemental Moranerial, color red) The pups born with a fire theme are colored in the "hot" colors: red, yellow, purple, orange, warm blues. They specifically focus on the use of temperature, and are capable of creating and controlling flame. Associated strongly with Darkness.
Water - (patron elemental Vivanerial, color blue) Water pups are born in cool, dark colors like blue and purple (purple counts as both a hot and cool color). They can control water in various ways, depending on the individual. They have abilites in healing and can also swim very well. Associated strongly with White.
Sky - (patron elemental Folanerial, color light blue) The pups born with Sky themes are cool, light colors. Some Sky pups have the ability to create currents of electricity, while others have the ability to control winds and other weather elements. Associated strongly with Life, less so Time and Earth.
Darkness - (patron elemental Callanerial, color black) The pups born to darkness are rather rare. They are usually gray and with a heavy build, although not always. As their patron elemental is capable of doing, Darknesses can control the effects of emotion, mostly negative ones. Associated strongly with fire.
Life - (patron elemental Lemanerial, color green) The pups born to Life theme are adept, like their patron, at controlling living things, so you can find them often having fascinations with plants and small animals. For this reason they're not very good mousers but are excellent in the garden. Life themed melceys often have floppy, soft ears. Associated strongly with Earth, less so with Time and Sky.
Sound - (patron elemental Osanerial, color periwinkle) A very recent elemental and theme with very little history, their patron being the first of the Senses, a new branch of elementals (Osanerial isn't even dead yet ^.^;). They have keen hearing and are in possession of some very large (for melceys, even) ears. They also can mimic sounds they hear. They enjoy music a great deal, but are rather too lazy to play it themselves. Like their patron, they can often be seen with their headphones on. No associations at this point.
White - (patron elemental Mayaner, color white) The opposite orientation of Darkness pups, whites are more rare. They have strong capabilities in healing and positive emotion and consistently have blue-colored eyes. Associated strongly with water.
Time - (patron elemental Ellioner, color purple) Extremely rare and powerful melcey pups, all of which are winged. Like their patron they have control over time. The nature of their power is horribly strong, being capable of manipulating the age of things to travel in time, but their power can be overridden in emergencies by Earth and Life melceys. Associated strongly with Life, less so Sky and Earth.
Riptide - (patron elemental Raenerial, color pink/rose) Fairly rare and dangerous melcey pups, all Riptide melceys are female. They represent insanity, being able to control negative emotions to the point of eliciting violence. Riptide melceys are fairly calm and cold in demeanor themselves, but they need an owner who has strong mental capacity, or eventually the taint of the melcey's power will make anyone nearby lose their minds. Weakly associated with Darkness, strongly with Chaos.
Graphite - (minion-oriented, color gray) The graphite theme is a type of sub-theme to Earth but leans more towards the Callaneriallian side of the branches because of its imaginative nature. Essentially, melceys of this type are the "artist" melceys. They enjoy viewing and creating art in many forms, from drawing and painting to photography and film. They are very intelligent, but their personality will sometimes change with the company. For example, a graphite around darkness melceys will be quiet and withdrawn, whereas a graphite with earth and life melceys will be extremely friendly, but always making changes in their own manner to make others more comfortable.
Candy - (minion-oriented, white w/ rainbow colors) These melceys are a rarer type of Lemaneriallian theme. They are usually white with striped or patterned colors, often with a candyish look to them. They have thin, whip like tails, like greyhounds, and small pointy ears. Candy melceys are flighty and probably closest in manner to toy poodles ^_^; Associated strongly with Life, less so Earth.
