Chevei are a sort of mish mash of various creatures; llama, horse, feline, fox, what have you. They live in small herds, called akali, with usually two or more stallions that watch out for the mares and foals. Not all chevei like to live in forest; some akali are more used to grasslands, desert, even mountains. They're very adaptable and can migrate great distances if their home becomes unfit for some reason. Chevei will eat most anything, hay, berries, fruit, grains, etc. Chevei can be kept domestically and make excellent companion animals. They always like to have a little company, but they despise large crowds, usually preferring other animals from Faidal'lem Caris (lorriams, melceys) as friends in the absence of other chevei.
Chevei have a genetics system; the present chevei are the second version of chevei I've made, and they have a revised system. However, the first and second versions can be bred together, I just have to do some more work in randomizing the genotype. Chevei can have extended breedings, meaning that adopted chevei can be bred together to produce more foals.
Adopted chevei are given ID numbers, which help me keep track of individuals, the location of their pictures, genotypes, etc. A chevei's ID number determines what gender it is, like with the melceys. Every fifth chevei is a male; meaning, all chevei with numbers divisable by five will be male. So one out of five of all chevei will be male. Obviously, there are going to be more mares than stallions.
A chevei's number consists of three parts; the first letter, indicating the species (C) as opposed to P (melcey pup) or L (lorriam). The second part is the animal's individual number; all chevei have different numbers. The third part is a small case letter indicating the animal's gender, with an "m" for male and an "f" for female. This is the numbering system for the latest version of chevei, older versions have a different kind of system, just so you don't get confused.
Chevei can be named most anything. If you don't want to name your chevei, I will name it for you. The first version chevei had their names in Faidian, their language, but this is no longer mandatory and chevei, like lorriams, can be named anything funky sounding ;)
